We came across a social media post very recently that claimed a product was preservative and fragrance free. While that claim appeared true, it highlighted just how important it is to do your research regardless of what is being advertised. We wanted to take this opportunity to highlight why you need to be so careful and pick your skincare products wisely.
Those making the claim didn’t mention anything at all about the other ‘crap’ in the bottle. They aren’t skincare professionals, have no (or very little) knowledge of the skin, skin science or cosmetic chemistry. In fact, they probably have no clue what the other ingredients in the bottle actually are. They could simply be repeating whatever nonsense the manufacturer provides.
Just because something is advertised as being free from well known ingredients (ingredients you’re likely to be familiar with) doesn’t automatically make everything else in the bottle safe. It’s deceptive marketing – the good points are highlighted while the bad stuff is completely ignored.
If they are being sold with the full knowledge of the ingredients within – then it’s pretty clear they don’t care about you, your skin, or your overall health and wellbeing.
Those other ‘crap’ ingredients we are talking about include both Ceteareth-20 and Triethanolamine.
According to Cosmetic Ingredient Review, Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics, and the U.S. National Library of Medicine, there is strong evidence that ‘Triethanolamine’ is a human skin, immune system and respiratory toxicant.
‘Triethanolamine’ can cause allergic reactions including eye problems, dryness of hair and skin, and could be toxic if absorbed into the body over a long period of time. It can cause itching, burning, scaling, hives, and blistering of skin, all symptoms which may increase with higher concentrations.
It should never be used long term as it has been proven to have detrimental effects on human skin, on the immune system and has been classified as a respiratory toxicant.
All of this and we haven’t even started with Ceteareth-20 yet.
Worse still… this is just a Cleanser. I don’t think we need to tell you what we found within the other products in this particular skincare line. Hint – it was not good!
Do your research. Just because it’s called skincare, does not mean it’s skin ‘caring’.
